NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

6th ECRICE / 2nd ECCE

The 6th European Conference on Research in Chemical Education (6th ECRICE), combined with the 2nd European Conference on Chemical Education (2nd ECCE) took place from 4 until 8 September 2001 in the University of Aveiro, Aveiro, PORTUGAL. The following information about the Conference was supplied by the Conference Organiser Antonio CACHAPUZ.

Number of attendants: 138. Attendants came from 19 countries (15 European countries, Brazil, USA, Canada, Israel). There were 9 plenary sessions, 10 keynotes addresses, 48 seminars (oral presentations), and 42 poster presentations. A number of social and cultural events were organised according to the programme.

A Book of Abstracts was published.

It was decided in Aveiro that the 7th ECRICE will be organised in 2003 at the University of Ljubljana, Lubliana, Slovenia. Conference Organiser will be Dusan KRNEL.

3RD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF ESERA

The 3rd International Conference of the European Science Education Research Association (ESERA) took place from 21 until 25 August 2001 in the University of Makedonia, Thessaloniki, Makedonia, GREECE. Its theme was "Science education research in the knowledge based society". Conference Organiser was Dimitris PSILLOS.

The presentations were distributed as follows: 6 invited papers; 2 invited symposia and open discussions; 150 single oral presentations; 17 single oral presentations by young researchers; 31 posters; alternative activities (e.g. ESERA General Assembly) and informal meetings. Contributions were roughly distributed among continents as follows: 119 Europe, 28 Asia, 25 America, 6 Australia, 4 Africa. Finally, a number of social and cultural events took place according to the programme.

A three-page synopsis was published for each contribution, resulting in two volumes with a total of 870 pages.

It has become a tradition to publish an edited volume on the basis of contributions to the ESERA Conferences. Such a volume is expected to be published for the 3rd ESERA Conference by Kluwer Academic Publishers. The Volume will be edited by the Local Committee of ESERA 2001. The format will be similar to the volume of the previous ESERA conferences in Rome and Kiel. The book length will be at maximum about 400 pages. For further information write to:
